Anyone who has seen Logan will remember that the 2017 film – which was supposed to be Hugh Jackman’s last as Wolverine – ended with the character’s death, killed by his own clone as he tried to save his daughter and her mutant friends. But thanks to the magic of Marvel’s multiverse, the hero is making a big return to cinema tomorrow in a movie where he’ll join forces with the infamous Deadpool.
If Wolverine’s death was so important that no one forgot, perhaps the end of the second cinematic adventure of the red-suited mercenary is a little more confusing for fans. But don’t worry, we’ll set the stage for you!
“Family” movie
According to Wade Wilson himself, Deadpool 2 is a family film. Not in the sense that he can be seen with children (far from it), but in the sense that the hero befriends several characters that he eventually considers family.
The feature film begins with the death of Vanessa, Wade’s great love, Deadpool and the collateral damage of the fight. bad boy. Devastated by this loss, the hero tries to end his life several times. Without success because his superpower is regeneration.
But everything changes when he crosses paths with the young mutant Russell, aka Firefist, during a mission who agrees to lead the X-Men Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. A rescue that goes wrong and after which the 14-year-old boy and Wade are sent to a terrible prison.
This is where Cable comes in from the future to kill Russell before he grows up to be the man who killed his family. Many adventures follow, in which Deadpool, who is attached to the teenager, tries to protect him from Cable with the help of a team of mutants, which he calls X-Force, but almost all of whose members die during the first mission.

Eventually, the man with the bionic arm and the talking mercenary make a deal to stop Russell from committing the first murder (the first step towards his future as a super villain). And it is the sacrifice of Wade, who is fatally shot in the final battle while wearing a power inhibitor necklace, that allows the boy to realize that he is important in someone’s eyes and refuse to seek revenge on the person who wronged him.
Wade then dies peacefully, surrounded by all the characters he befriended throughout the film, and joins Vanessa in the afterlife. The latter tells him that his time has not yet come. And indeed, Cable uses his device to go back in time and prevent Deadpool from dying.
The film then ends with a shot of Colossus, Cable, Domino, Russell, Dopinder and Wade walking towards the camera in unison, the latter explaining out loud that they are now family…

But that’s not all! In the mid-credits scene, Wade in turn uses Cable’s device to travel back in time and save Vanessa, as well as his favorite member of X-Force: Peter (but also kill Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine and even Ryan Reynolds before he agrees to play Green Lantern in).

If we can expect to see Cable, Domino, and Russell in Deadpool & Wolverine given that ending, it looks like those characters aren’t in this sequel. It remains to be seen whether there will be an explanation for their absence. On the other hand, the rest of the gang will be there! And of course Sean Levy’s film will introduce Logan to this completely crazy world.
There are also some references to Hugh Jackman and his legendary character in the two previous Deadpool movies. In the first film, Wade wears the Australian actor’s mask when Vanessa takes off Deadpool’s hood for the first time. And the second episode opens with a music box representing Logan’s death, impaled by a tree branch, while Wade voices over:
