Hayden Panettiere said he started using ‘happiness pills’ to keep his spirits up during interviews
Hayden Panettiere revealed details of struggling with alcohol and opioid addiction during the early stages of his career. The 32-year-old actress opened up in an interview with peopletalking about the consequences that addiction brought to his adolescence and artistic career.
Panettiere won the public’s heart in the 2000s, after making several appearances in soap operas and starring in Duel of titans (2000) alongside denzel washington. His success continued with The Tiger’s Cruise (2004) and The Spicy: All or Nothing (2006) from disney.
It was at this time, when she was 15, that Panettiere received “happy pills” for the first time, said the actress. “They were supposed to get me excited during interviews. I had no idea this wasn’t an appropriate thing, or what door would open for me when it came to my addiction.”
As his career blossomed, Panettiere managed to maintain his sobriety on set, but couldn’t say the same about his time off set.
“The only good thing is that I couldn’t make a mess while I was on set and working,” he said. Panettiere. “But things got out of hand [fora do set]. And as I got older, drugs and alcohol became something I almost couldn’t live without.”
She also spoke about her experiences with postpartum depression, sharing that her role as the troubled country star Juliette Barnes in nashville (2012) “showed the reality that lived at home”.
In the series, the pregnancy of Panettiere was included in her character, producing screenplays centered on the difficulties that followed. “These were really difficult years,” she said of the period following the birth of her daughter Kaya, who is now 7 years old. After the birth of the daughter, Panettiere sought treatment for depression, but her addiction hurdles remained.
An eight-month stint in rehab helped the actress break out of what she described as a “cycle of self-destruction”.
It’s a daily choice, and I’m always checking myself. But I am so grateful to be a part of this world again and I never intend to use substances that take me out of reality again.
Panettiere will reprise her fan-favorite role as Kirby Reed in panic 6scheduled to be released in theaters in March 2023. The actress appeared in panic 4 (2011) but did not return for this year’s fifth edition.
