In the works since 2015, the film adaptation of the Borderlands video game saga will hit theaters on August 7, 2024. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt and Florian Munteanus.

Much appreciated by players for its fantasy world and crazy characters, the Borderlands franchise has significantly destroyed the looter-shooter genre. With 83 million copies sold, the license is one of the best sellers in the world. It is developed by the Texas studio Gearbox Software.
The iconic game
The story takes place on the planet Pandora, a sort of post-apocalyptic world somewhere between the Wild West and Mad Max-style Steampunk. Legends speak of “Arks,” vast extraterrestrial space structures that contain treasures, weapons, and forbidden technology. This led to the creation of “Vault Hunters”, adventurers in search of these riches. Keep in mind that the world of video games is run by powerful organizations like Hyperion.
In the film, we follow Lilith, a bounty hunter with a troubled past. He reluctantly returns to his home planet of Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. His mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the most powerful (and most despicable) man in the world. To get there, Lilith will have to form an unexpected alliance with a happy team of misfits.
Roland, a seasoned mercenary; Tiny Tina, a teenager with a penchant for destruction; Krieg, Tina’s muscular bodyguard; Tanis, a whimsical scientist; and Claptrap, a very talkative robot. Together, these unlikely heroes must face the worst alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover Pandora’s most explosive secrets.
Between the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Suicide Squad
The first images of the film adaptation look towards Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad with a touch of Expendables. They give pride of place to a flood of action. Eli Roth (Hostel, Death Wish) directs a feature film written by Craig Mazin (The Last of Us, Chernobyl).
Note that Cate Blanchett stars as Lilith, a recurring character in the franchise. She is what we call a Siren, of which there are six in the world of boundaries, with phenomenal powers.
Jamie Lee Curtis, on the other hand, plays Dr. Patricia Tanis, a scientist and archaeologist from Pandora. He is also a very important character in the video game license, appearing in all three installments.
As for Kevin Hart, he will portray Roland and will be up against Ariana Greenblatt (Tiny Tina), Jack Black (Claptrap) and Florian Munteanu (Krieg). The battle begins in theaters on August 7, 2024!
