With a health condition considered irreversible, the runner Luisa Giampaoli from Rio Grande do Sul was hospitalized for headaches
Rio Grande do Sul’s top-level runner Luisa Giampaoli, 29, is hospitalized in serious conditions at the São Francisco de Paula Hospital, in Pelotas, after feeling strong heachache. According to Eduardo Schmit, the athlete’s husband, the responsible doctors say that the situation can no longer be undone.
Luisa began complaining of headaches and dizziness at the end of June. However, despite her symptoms, the runner participated in the Poa Day Run, where she came in first in the women’s 10 km. The athlete’s symptoms worsened, with the appearance of fever AND memory losswhich forced her to be hospitalized again.
In an initial evaluation, Luisa was diagnosed with dengue. However, after six days in hospital, a new diagnosis of leptospirosi was confirmed and the athlete was released to continue treatment at home. In addition to the headache, the runner began to experience difficulty speaking and was admitted to hospital again.
Luisa performed in the hospital CT scans of the head, but to magnetic resonance imaging was discarded despite the advice of other doctors.
