Andor truly promises to be the most daring television project in the Star Wars franchise to date. Thanks to the latest issue of Empire Magazine, we now know that the Rogue One prequel series is going to explore a five-year period in 24 episodes split across two seasons. Season 1 will focus on Cassian Andori’s (played by Diego Luna, also an executive producer of the show) first year as a spy for the fledgling Rebel Alliance, while Season 2, which has already been ordered, will focus on the remaining four years. .
“The scale of the series is huge“, said showrunner and screenwriter Tony Gilroy. “Directors work in blocks of three episodes, we did four blocks in three episodes. We looked at it and thought, “Wow, it would be really cool if we could go back and use the block to celebrate one year. We will get closer‘per year with each block.’“
“It’s an intense and epic story with a huge ensemble cast and many, many characters you’ll meet on your way to Cassian Andor.“- added executive producer Sane Wollenberg. “We follow those particular formative years of the Rebellion as well as the Empire. VS‘It’s always an extraordinary time when people are under pressure to wake up and stand up for who they are and be willing to make sacrifices.“
Like the film that spawned it, the show takes a more down-to-earth approach to the legendary and beloved galaxy far, far away. There is no Jedi here who carries lightsabers and trusts in the invisible force. Instead, it presents a story based on ordinary citizens trying to escape a fascist dictatorship.
“If Star Wars is a very successful hotel or restaurant, we are in the kitchen,” continued Gilroy, who wrote five of the first season’s 12 episodes. “We are molecular, granular, we are behind, below. We have 1500 pages of script to tell this story. So we have a lot to talk about and dig pretty deep.“
In addition to the titular hero, the series will also see the return of the brash Imperial droid, K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk), the inspiring resistance fighter Saw Gerrera (Forrest Whittaker), and the future leader of the Alliance, the rebel Mon Mothma. (Genevieve O’Reilly).
“When we start in Andor, it is entangled with the Empiresaid O’Reilly of her character, who after a stint as a member of the Galactic Senate is convinced that the underground movement is the only way to effect real change.
Stellan Skarsgård ( Dune ), Fiona Shaw ( Harry Potter ), Denise Gough ( Robin Hood ), Adria Arjona ( Morbius ), Kyle Soler ( Poldark ) and Robert Ems ( His Dark Materials ) will also play roles that will not be filled. Not yet revealed.
Andor It will debut with two episodes next Wednesday, August 31st on Disney+.
