Luisa Stefani and her partner Bia Haddad Maia made their debut with victory this Monday (29) at the Paris Olympic Games, played on the clay of Roland Garros, in the French capital.

They beat the Chinese Shuai Zhang and Yue Yuan with a double 6/4, after 1h37min.

“I knew from the beginning that Bia had a tough match in singles and that I would have to take responsibility in doubles. But the important thing was to understand that, at the same time, I didn’t need to worry about her and I focused on my own. We talked in advance, we talked about how we should play and we would immediately turn around if something was different. That’s my confidence in what she will offer and it left me calm to start every match with energy up there,” Luisa said.

Luisa commented on different aspects of this Olympics compared to those of 2021, when she won bronze, together with Laura Pigossi, in the historic first Olympic medal for Brazilian tennis, in Tokyo. “I love playing at the Olympics, the last one was indescribable. With Bia it’s always beautiful, our game goes very well. I really enjoy playing with her. We know what we have to do and, if we don’t do it, This, we are aware of what we should have done. This gives me a lot of peace of mind, at least for me, that our skills and our preparation have been done and I trust her game,” she explained.

“Tokyo had no audience, the Olympic Village was different, everything was different, here is a different surface. Here is a family, an audience, an incredible partner on the side, a really great team on the outside. I’m really happy to be here, I try to enjoy these moments too. Today we had a great debut,” she added.

The pair will play again this Wednesday (31) against the winners of the duel between the Germans Laura Siegemund and Angelique Kerber and the British Katie Boulter and Heather Watson, a match scheduled for this Tuesday (30).
