The news was given by the Original sin during a fan panel at San Diego Comic-Con. At the time, Paramount Global Co-CEO Chris McCarthy said they were very excited about the actor’s return to the iconic role of Dexter Morgan.
“While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a new generation of viewers to this iconic series, starting from the beginning, while also being sure to please existing audiences,” McCarthy said.

While production details have not yet been revealed, it is already known that the show will be set in the present day and is expected to premiere on Showtime and Paramount+ between June and August 2025.
End of New Blood Leaves a Resurrection Puzzle
Despite the good news, the news left many fans confused, as the crime drama miniseries, Dexter: New Blood – continuation of Rightwhich takes place before the events of Resurrection -, ended with a scene implying the death of Michael C. Hall’s character.
In 2022, shortly after the last episode of the series aired, the showrunner of the production, Clyde Phillips, confirmed that the protagonist was dead. A “detail” that has now made many doubt how it will be possible for there to be a sequel to the story.
Showtime production, however, doesn’t seem to be too concerned about the matter. When Variety asked him about the alleged “snag,” Michael C. Hall deflected and simply said he didn’t know what he was allowed to say, other than that “it’s really cold outside.”
Right originally aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, becoming the network’s most successful series in history. Over the course of eight seasons, the crime drama told the story of a forensic expert who spends his days solving crimes and his nights committing murders.
