The National Household Survey (Pnad), published this Friday (16) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), reveals that the number of Brazilian households with a television signal and a subscription to closed-source television services has decreased in recent years. On the other hand, streaming services have increased and are now present in four out of ten television homes in the country.

On the other hand, the presence of streaming services in Brazilian homes has increased. It has gone from 31,061 million in 2022 to 31,107 million in 2024.
According to IBGE, the presence of streaming is one of the factors that explain the loss of space of open and closed television in Brazilian homes. Through the service, subscribers have access, for example, to different films, series, children’s cartoons and sporting events.

In 2022, 4.7% of households with streaming did not have access to open television or a pay TV service. The following year, this indicator rose to 6.1%. The research also reveals that the average real income per capita of households with streaming was R$ 2,731, more than double that of those who did not have access to the service (R$ 1,245).
The data also indicate regional inequality. While in the South (49%), the Center-West (48.2%) and the South-East (47.6%) almost half of families have paid streaming channels, in the North and North-East the proportions are 37.5% and 28.2% respectively.
