An action by the Federal Police (PF) arrested this Saturday morning, the 17th, the former director of Petrobras services, Renato Duque, 69 years old. Duque had been on the run since July, when the Federal Court of Paraná (JF-PR) ordered his arrest as part of Operation Lava Jato. The agents found him in a house in the Niterói neighborhood, in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, and locked him up in the state prison.
Known as the “PT’s man” in Petrobras’ illicit schemes, investigated by Lava Jato, Duque headed, between 2003 and 2012, a board of directors of the state-owned company that, according to the task force, collected about 650 million reais in bribes from contractors investigated for corruption.
He was arrested in February 2015, in the tenth phase of Lava Jato, as one of the first targets of senior Petrobras officials. In March 2020, he was released with precautionary measures, such as wearing an electronic ankle bracelet, and began living in Rio while appealing his conviction. Renato Duque stopped using the equipment last year, but remains banned from leaving the country.
On the 17th of last month, however, he was sentenced by the 12th Federal Criminal Court of Curitiba to 39 years, two months and 20 days of closed prison for the crimes of corruption, criminal association and money laundering.
