The sun has officially set on our flag means death. In January 2024, Max canceled the Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby-led series after two seasons.
“Although Max will not be continuing Our Flag Means Death for a third season, we are very proud of the fun, funny and heartfelt stories that creators David Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby, Gareth Bash, Dan Halstead, Adam Stein, Antoine Douah And the whole wonderful cast and crew brought it to life“, the spokesperson of the HBO streaming platform said in a statement at the time. “We also thank the loyal fans who embraced these stories and created a beautiful and inclusive community around the series.“
On March 8, the creator Our flag means deathDavid Jenkins shared a heartbreaking Instagram post announcing that all hope of a return for the series is now lost after failing to find another streaming home.
“I can officially confirm that we have reached the end of the roadJenkins writes. “At least when it comes to this sweet series. Many meetings, conversations, etc. Then there seems to be no alternative home for our team. Thank you to everyone who sent us so much love and attention. Your campaign has been noticed throughout the industry. But more importantly, it allowed all of us who worked on the series to better cope with this loss.“
He continued: “You, the wonderful fans: Thank you. You are lovely and sincere. Such things are sometimes rarely seen. But this is not so. A love like ours cannot disappear instantly. When we see each other in mysticism, let’s greet each other. We will not say goodbye because we are not leaving. We’re just taking a break until the next time we can share something.“
