Nataly Rochastar of Motel Destinonew feature film by Karim Ainouz (The Invisible Life), revealed that the film was supposed to be released years ago, but was blocked by the former president’s government Jair Bolsonaro. The new film — which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d’Or, the event’s main prize — hits theaters next Thursday (22).
“A lot was lost in our culture during this period. [do governo Bolsonaro]. This film was supposed to have been shot before the pandemic, but it was blocked. Making films is a lot of resistance, it is a political act in today’s Brazil”declared the actress in an interview with Omelet during the Gramado Film Festival.
Asked what could have led to this, Rock implied that it would be the conservatism promoted by the former administration: “It was because of the topic, the subject we were addressing. It was the Bolsonaro government, right?”he stated. “Motel Destino It was kind of shelved there”.
What is the story of Motel Destino?
Motel Destino tells the story of a woman in an abusive relationship with an ex-policeman, owner of the motel of the title, who sees her life change after a young man, recently released from a socio-educational institution where he was serving his sentence, enters her. Fabio Assuncao (Where Is My Heart), Nataly Rocha (Nêgo’s Head) and the newcomer Iago Xavier are in the cast. Watch the trailer:
