Brazil beats Canada, advances with 100% in Under-17 World Cup

Brazil achieved another great victory and closed the first phase of the U-17 Women’s Volleyball World Cup with 100% success. The “Fofinhas”, as they are affectionately called, defeated Canada by 3 sets to 0 (25/12, 25/18 and 25/16), on Monday night (19), in Lima, Peru. As a result, the team advanced first in the group and will face Egypt in the round of 16.




As in the first two matches of the competition, Brazil dominated and did not give any margin to the opponent. The team played a devastating first set and, after being ahead 11/9, put together a sequence of blocks and closed the partial on 25/12. The second set had a more balanced start, but the yellow-greens took flight and won 25/18. In the third period the score is 25/16.

Laura was the star of the match, with 13 points scored, eight in attack, two in blocking and three in service. Heloisa scored 11 points, with three blocks, while Vallentina scored ten points, all offensive. Rosana scored seven points, while Zeni and Mariana five. On the Canadian side, Fermaniuk scored nine points, six in attack, one in blocking and two in service.

World Cup Sequence

With their third win, Brazil finished the first phase of the U-17 Women’s Volleyball World Cup in first place in Group A, ahead of Peru, Dominican Republic and Canada. According to the competition rules, all 16 participating teams advance to the round of 16, regardless of their position in the initial phase.

Brazil’s next opponent will therefore be Egypt, fourth in Group C, with three defeats in three games, which will be played this Tuesday (20), at 15:30 (Brasilia time). In case of victory, Fofinhas will face Thailand (third place in Group B), Japan, Puerto Rico or Taiwan (second place in Group D) in the quarter-finals, which will take place on Thursday (22).
