The Tricolore fights for the second title of the continental tournament
With the victory over Grêmio, Fluminense secured $1.7 million (R$9.2 million) to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Libertadores. The Tricolor awaits the match between Atlético-MG and San Lorenzo to find out its next opponent.
In the entire continental competition, Tricolor received $12.75 million (R$69.5 million) thanks to the four victories in the group stage, in addition to the different rankings in the competition. The tournament was a great source of income for the club.
With a place in the quarterfinals guaranteed, Fluminense is back to focusing on the Brazilian championship to escape the relegation zone. Team Guerreiros is in 18th place, but has a chance of escaping the Z4 if they beat Atlético-MG this weekend.
In the Libertadores, Mano Menezes’ team should return to play only between September 17 and 19, when the first leg of the quarterfinals is scheduled, according to the basic dates of Conmebol. The return duels will take place the following week.
