The prime minister-elect’s party came in second in the 2023 election, but formed a governing coalition after the vote winner was blocked by military-backed lawmakers.

Paetongtarn, who is pregnant, made her electoral debut this year. In addition to never having held a government post, she also has no administrative experience.
