The acting legend won his second Golden Statuette for this touching psychological drama.
A man over 80 years old suffers from dementia. Your memories become more and more confusedand his daughter does her best to take care of him devotedly. But the man is usually harsh and disdainful toward her – and, some days, he doesn’t even recognize her anymore.
THE exciting plot belongs to My fatherdrama released in 2020 for the French Florian Zeller – adapting his play of the same name. And the script, already exceptional, becomes even more impactful when brought to the screen by the legends Anthony Hopkinswho plays the father, and Olivia Colmanlike his daughter Anne.
The film marked Zeller’s debut as a director on the big screen, featuring an intelligent structure that ensures empathy for both the father’s confusion and the daughter’s emotions. Although it is a psychological dramathe film probably manages to torment some viewers more than many horror productions out there.
Critically acclaimed, My Father has been repeatedly ranked among the best films of 2021, nominated for not one but six Oscars, including a win for Best Screenplay to Zeller and his co-author Christopher Hampton (Desire and repair), and from Best Actor for Hopkins, adding, to date, two career statuettes (the first of The Silence of the Lambs).
The film is available on Netflix.
