One of the producers of the documentary “Soul Summer”, which won the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, expresses his indignation over the gesture of Will Smith and regrets that the actor “stole” “Moment” from his category.
The 94th Academy Awards, held on March 27, are not going to be forgotten. After a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith, comedian and comedian Chris Rock was struck down by the actor’s husband – and future Oscar winner – Will Smith. One of the producers, Joseph Patel, returned to the incident with a series of tweets – now deleted – and lamented the invisibility of their victory: “The reason for all this is very angry is that I was proud to be among the few South Asians who won an Oscar in the history of the ceremony.. ”
He follows: “I was excited to be the third South Asian artist to win an award that night – after Reese Ahmed and Anil Karia. Goodbye . The victory of three South Asians in one night has never happened before. This is important! It is historical ! ”
The producer also explains that he did not accept one of Chris Rock’s jokes when announcing the winner. Opening the envelope, the comedian said:Დa is the winner Summer of the soulAmir Khalib Thompson and four white boys!“Joseph Patel’s reaction is sharp:”I do not have the heart to watch the ceremony again. I will probably never see him again. Thank you Chris – you really are a liver.”
The producer says about Will Smith: “What Will did is selfish. He robbed the category moment. He stole the moment from other excellent films that gained recognition for documentaries after a remarkable year. And he stole the moment Summer of the soul And our team.”
The Oscar-winning actor apologized twice for Williams’s method and has since left the Oscar Academy after his gesture.
