Is Netflix creating a new niche? A romantic comedy starring a woman over 50? Looks good and we approve! With Mother of the Bride Brooke Shields and Inside the Family with Nicole Kidman, here comes Lonely Planet with Laura Dern!
Netflix has just announced that Lonely Planet, the new novel from writer-director Susannah Grant (creator of the excellent Unbelievable), will be streaming on October 11th, and is taking the opportunity to reveal some of the first images.
No, Lonely Planet is not a travel guide (not this time)
The film tells the story of the arrival of an abandoned novelist in a prestigious writers’ retreat in Morocco, hoping that the secluded place will allow him to release his lack of inspiration. There she meets a young man and what starts as a simple acquaintance turns into a drunken love story that will change her life.
It’s the wonderful Laura Dern who plays the author – a hapless victim of blank page syndrome who finds a source of inspiration – whose meeting with a charming young man, played by Liam Hemsworth, transforms her life.

May-December phenomenon
It’s certain that the May-December affair — an Anglo-Saxon expression that refers to a relationship between two people with a large age gap — is all the rage at the moment among storytellers, and not just on Netflix.
Filmmaker Todd Haynes hit Netflix (but not in France) last year with his dark comedy May in December, which earned several Oscar and Golden Globe nominations after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.
in turn Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson experience the torrid romance between a powerful CEO and his much younger intern in Babygirl, Halina Rainey (Director of Bodies Bodies Bodies), which will be presented at the competition in Venice.
