THE Rio de Janeiro Military Police has guaranteed the holding of the matches between Botafogo, who will face São Paulo at the Nilton Santos, and Fluminense, who will face Atlético-MG at the Maracanã on the same day (Wednesday, September 14) for the Copa Libertadores. In very close moments, this is unusual and is usually avoided to avoid conflicts between fans.




Public safety authorities usually stipulate that two teams from the city cannot play on the same day. The exception is due to the complexity of the Brazilian football calendar.

The Press Office of the Secretariat of State of the Military Police informs that the company, through its units regularly mobilized for this type of sporting events, has decades of experience in security work in this type of context.

A police strategy is being developed to escort club delegations, referee teams and organised fans, routines historically conducted by the Specialised Stadium Police Battalion (BEPE), a national reference in its universe of activities.

The corporation’s other specialized units that regularly participate in this work – such as the Assault Police Battalion (BPChq), the Dog Action Battalion (BAC), the Mounted Police Regiment (RPMont) and the Special Patrols and Crowd Control Teams (RECOM) – will also be mobilized.

Police officers from the Aeromobile Group (GAM) will carry out aerial monitoring, using manned aircraft and drones, while teams from the Railway Police Group (GPFer) will reinforce police presence at the Engenho de Dentro, São Cristóvão and Maracanã train and subway stations. Stations.

The battalions in the areas where the matches will be held – 3rd BPM (Méier) and 6th BPM (Tijuca) – will also have increased personnel and will intensify policing in their operational perimeters.

It is worth mentioning that the city of Rio de Janeiro has hosted on numerous occasions matches between two major teams on the same day, being one of the few in the country to host classics with equally divided fans, always counting on an extensive security system of the Military Police to ensure safe events for participants and the population of Rio.
