The actress shares how she identifies with the famous opera singer she plays
Angelina Jolie participated in a press conference at Venice Film Festival this Thursday, August 29, to talk about her role as Maria Callas in the new film Maria.
During the interview, Angelina spoke about her personal connection with the iconic opera singer, known for her life marked by tragedy.
There is much I will not say in this room, which you probably already know or assume. I believe the way I related to her may come as a surprise— [foi] probably the part of her that is extremely soft and has no room in the world to be as soft as she really was, and as emotionally open as she really was.
The actress also says that the part of Maria she shares most is vulnerability.
Angelina was asked about the possible Oscar buzz surrounding her performance:
My concern would be to disappoint Callas fans and those who love opera. So of course, all the other things, in my own work, if there is a response to the work, I’m very grateful.
The biopic has the following synopsis: “Based on true events, Maria will tell the tumultuous, beautiful and tragic story of the life of the world’s greatest opera singer, relived and reimagined during her final days in 1970s Paris.”
Mariais directed by Pablo Larrainknown for his biographical films such as Jackie(2016) and Spencer(2021). The production does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is already generating great expectations among opera fans and fans of Angelina Jolie’s career.
