Is Late Night a good movie? Viewers share their thoughts on the thriller with Romain Dury

His short T’es Morte Hélène caught the eye of Sam Raimi (who is producing the longer version in English). With La Nuit se drags, Michel Blanchard takes the next step and proves his penchant for directing with the story of Maddie (Jonathan Feltre, one of Rascal’s revelations).

A student by day and a locksmith by night, the latter finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when he agrees to help Claire (Natacha Crieff). Because this act opens the door to a mad dash into the heart of Brussels amid demonstrations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to escape thugs, led by Romain Duris.

But what did audiences think of this tense first feature?

Averaged 3.5 out of 5 from 93 ratings*, La Nuit se drags is off to a pretty good start. Above the Rascals (3.2), the previous film directed by Jonathan Feltre and daaaaaal! (3.3) for Romain Durys. But below Milady (3.6), as well as D’Artagnan and Le Règne animal (both 3.9) for the latter.

They liked it

tpguillaume (5 out of 5): “This film is exceptional! The energy, the skill in its staging and the use of techniques (lighting, tight framing, stunts without unnecessary effects).”

AS69 (5 of 5): “A powerful film. The plot is well-crafted, the actors are very fair, sensitive and show a wide range of emotions. The action and fight scenes are well done and we are often captivated by the editing (image and sound). Certain shot choices and camera movements are enhanced by the skill of the cinematographer, who from the very beginning It was with Michel Blanchard.”

Jim Carrey (5 of 5): “We are in suspense from start to finish. The staging is impressive. A breath of fresh air in French cinema! Bravo!”

I highly recommend this thriller, which perfectly meets all the criteria of a good genre film.

Ti Bo (4 of 5): “A very good thriller! The actors are convincing. I was wondering how it would all end.”

Sylvain P. (3.5 out of 5): “Despite the flawed ending, La Nuit se drags is a success: the terrifying descent into hell of a locksmith (Jonathan Feltre’s master) who thinks he’s doing some small-time intervention at night and finds himself caught up in a gang war.” It’s difficult. Restoring his breathing is all we asked for, so his conscience issues are less of a concern to us.”

Tangi Phokon (3.5 out of 5): “I highly recommend this thriller, which perfectly fulfills all the criteria of a good film of the genre. Although it can seem quite simple and at times predictable, it remains a great entertainment that will give you a great time.”

They didn’t like it

lionelb30 (3.5 out of 5): “The genre is good, the suspense is very relevant, the actors are good, the direction is effective. The script remains not very reliable, but hey, it’s cinema.”

A fairly enjoyable thriller in form with its relatively brisk pace, but one that suffers from a shaky plot with unlikely twists

Guigi Paul (2.5 out of 5): “A fairly enjoyable thriller in form with a relatively fast pace, its young lead and its night shots under the influence (bail ?), but which suffers from a shaky script with implausible events, under-characterized characters and a superficially treated political background.

in short

The form and pace of this thriller is compelling, as is the cast. But the scenario is much less.
