We’re obviously talking about Danny Boon’s iconic Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis and its 20 million viewers in theaters, which will be broadcast this Sunday night on TF1. Released in 2008 Welcome to Ch’tis It tells the story of Philippe Abrams (Cad Merad), director of the post office in Salon-de-Provence, who is transferred against his will to the small northern town of Berg. To this superstitious southerner, the north is a terrifying, icy region inhabited by bogey creatures who speak an incomprehensible language. But to his surprise, he finds a charming place, a warm team, welcoming people and makes friends: Antoine (Danny Boone), postman and village carillonneur, possessive mother and failed loves.

along with Welcome to Ch’tis (which was censored in China), Danny Boone Tried to get rid of the clichés that are traditionally held about the northern region. “Before shooting my first film, I had the idea for Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis. house of happiness. But first I wanted to see if I could make a film, because I didn’t want to interfere with a subject that is very close to me.”– says the actor director. “All subjects are important, but this is true: this is my childhood, this is my region, these are the people… They are my brothers! They hope for me”

“In fact, the idea for the film came from the vision of those who do not know Nord-Pas-de-Calais”continues Danny Boone. “These French, who have a very negative and terrible vision of the region, be it poverty, desperation, unemployment or mines, hence the desire to make a very human comedy whose main character, not from the north, is Chittim culture, a sense of welcome, of sharing… All this proverb sums up: A foreigner who comes to the north cries twice: when he arrives and when he leaves.
