Newcastle suffer at home, but beat Tottenham

At St. James Park, Alvinegros makes it 2-1, but is under pressure from the Londoners from start to finish

Newcastle hosted Tottenham this Sunday morning (1/9), in the third round of the English championship. They did not play well, as their rival dominated them for much of the duel. However, to the delight of the fans who packed St. James Park, they won 2-1. The goals of the home team came from Barnes and Isak. Tottenham scored on an own goal by Burn.

The win takes Newcastle to seven points, with a chance of finishing in G4. But Tottenham, stuck on four points, are in tenth place in the English table.

Tottenham in the lead…

Tottenham were offensively superior to Newcastle throughout the 90 minutes. In the first half, for example, they hit the post, had a goal disallowed and regretted at least two clear chances through Odobert. But it was Newcastle who took the lead, with 36, with Barnes completing a good play to the left of Kelly.

…But Newcastle is the winner

In the second half, Tottenham continued to dominate, taking advantage of the fact that the away defense was unsure. After trying so hard, they equalized with a curious goal. On a cross from the left, Porro tries to score from a corner, taking advantage of the fact that goalkeeper Papa does not start. And defender Burn, trying to cut, did it against. The goal woke up Tottenham even more. After all, the London team continued to put pressure on the cornered Tottenham. But whoever doesn’t do it, takes it. That’s what happened. Joelinton started a counterattack and released Murphy. He advanced, entered the box and rolled to Isak, who was following him. This killed the goalkeeper. Isak simply pushed the ball home. Interestingly, the advantage made Newcastle adjust their game, preventing Tottenham from getting a draw.
