The film starring Fernanda Torres received more than 10 minutes of applause at the Venice Film Festival last weekend
Sony has released the first trailer for “I’m Still Here,” the new film by Walter Salles, which received more than 10 minutes of applause at the Venice Film Festival, in its world premiere last weekend. The preview does not explain the story, it only tries to convey impressions of the resilience of its protagonist.
The drama, which marks Salles’ return to narrative cinema after 12 years, tells the story of Eunice Paiva, a mother of five, who struggles to find the whereabouts of her husband, Rubens Paiva, after he is taken from their home by military police in 1971, during the dictatorship in Brazil. The true story is based on the book by the couple’s son, writer Marcelo Rubens Paiva.
The main role is played by Fernanda Torres, with whom the director worked in “Terra Estrangeira” (1995) and “O Primeiro Dia” (1998), and the production also includes an epilogue with the participation of the actress’s mother, Fernanda Montenegro, nominated for an Oscar for directing Salles in “Central do Brasil” (1998). The two have shared the same character over the years and, according to international critics, it could be the daughter’s turn to win the Oscar. It is worth remembering that Fernanda Torres has already won the Cannes Film Festival for “Eu Sei que Vou Te Amar” (1986), by Arnaldo Jabor.
The cast also includes Selton Mello as Rubens Paiva.
After being celebrated in Venice, where it received excellent reviews from the international press, the film heads towards North America, where it is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto (Friday 9/6) and New York (10/9) festivals. ). There are no forecasts yet for the commercial debut.
