Jenna Ortegaknown for her roles in Wandinha and Screamexpressed her opinion on the need for female-led franchises that are original, rather than spin-offs of already established male franchises in the industry. During an interview with MTVto promote the film Beetlejuice Beetlejuiceshe was asked about the possibility of playing a female version of Edward Scissorhandsbut stated that he would rather lead a new and original franchise.

I think it’s great that we have more female protagonists these days, but we should have our own franchises. I don’t really like it when it’s a spinoff — like, I don’t want to see something like ‘Jamie Bond.’ I want to see another amazing, original character.”

In the interview, Jenna also emphasized the importance of female roles that are created to reflect the strength that women possess in real life:

I believe that roles for women should be created in a way that reflects the strength and complexity we see in real life. I don’t want just a female version of something that already exists. I want something new, something that inspires and empowers.”
