Amazon: Archaeology of the Forest
On September 6th, starting at 8pm, there will be a free Special Session of the first episode of the series Amazon: Archaeology of the Forest. Produced by SescTV, and directed by Tatiana Toffolithe series follows Eduardo Goes Nevesa professor at USP and researcher in archaeology, and his team, on their expeditions through the Amazon in search of the past.
In this episode, the archaeologists go to the Teotônio site, near Porto Velho (RO), where traces of black earth were found. The session will be presented by the director and Eduardo. Tickets can be collected from 7pm at the box office.
CineClubinho
THE CineClubinho on the 8th brings a free preview: the Brazilian animation Motherboardof Igor Bastoswhich follows the android Nadi on a journey full of challenges to guarantee her the right to adopt two children, David and Lina.
The session, which starts at 3 pm, will be attended by the director Igor Bastos and the art director Elisa Guimaraes. The CineClubinho starts at 2pm, in the lobby, with Elisa giving a free character drawing workshop. Free session with tickets available 1 hour before at the box office.
African Cinema Showcase
And to close the week, on Wednesday, the 11th, starting at 8 pm, the opening of the African Cinema Showcasewith the display of Black Tea: The Aroma of Lovea production of France, Luxembourg, Taiwan and Mauritania, directed by the Mauritanian Abderrahmane Sissako.
In the film, Aya, a young African woman, leaves her fiancé at the altar and the Ivory Coast behind to start a new life in China. The screening is free and will feature a presentation by Abderrahmane Sissako and the presence of the Cape Verdean filmmaker Natasha Craveirowhich has a film at the event. Admission is free and tickets can be collected one hour before at the box office.
Ruiz-Sarmiento Trilogy
Also in a Special Session, on September 9th and 10th, there will be a screening of the Ruiz-Sarmiento Trilogy, with the screening of three feature films and one short film by the Chilean director couple that show the importance of film restoration. All sessions are free, and tickets can be picked up 1 hour in advance at the box office.
On Monday, September 9th, the session will take place Socialist Realismstarted by Ruiz and completed 50 years later by Sarmiento. The timeless, restored film, shown at the San Sebastian Festival in 2023, it will have its Brazilian premiere at CineSesc. The session will be followed by a chat with the Chilean-Spanish researcher and professor Ignacio Del Valle Davila and the Brazilian film preservationist Deborah Butruce.
On Tuesday, starting at 6:30 pm, there is a session of The Wandering Soap Operapresented by Philip Furtadofilm critic and specialist in the work of Raul Ruiz. Soon after, starting at 8:30 pm, there will be a double session with the short film by Valeria, A Dream In Colorsand The Widower’s Tango and His Distorting Mirrorof Raul Ruiz and Valeria Sarmientowhich also took 50 years to complete. The film premiered at Berlin International Film Festival in 2020.
