Audience Asked For Director’s Cut Of Thor: Love And Thunder, But Taika Waititi Doesn’t Like The Idea
Thor: Love and Thunderdivided audience and critics after its premiere. At the Rotten Tomatoesreview aggregator, the film has only 67% approval – one of the worst-rated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
On social media, fans raised the hashtag #ReleaseTheWaititiCut (Release the cut of waititi, in free translation). The hope is that an extended version, made by the director, would be better compared to the theatrical version.
taikahowever, disagrees, as he does not see any sense in this type of cut, as he explained to the NME: “I watch a lot of director’s cuts from other directors. They suck. Director’s cuts aren’t good. Filmmakers need no controls. If I said, ‘Want to watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long! ‘ It’s not good. There are lots of tea breaks, even without having to pause the movie.”
Although I don’t consider releasing another Thor: Love and Thunder, waititi imagined what his own director’s cut would look like – with even more comedy. “My cut would probably have more jokes. There are some deleted scenes, but as I always say, a scene gets deleted because it’s not good enough to be in the movie,” he explained.
“I think the deleted scenes on the DVD – not that they still use it – should just be a list of scenes with no links for you to click on,” he added.
