Released 21 years before the Disney cartoon that everyone knows at least by name, the film Robin Hood and his merry companions, available on Disney+, provides a completely entertaining version that is compatible with the whole family. Of course, we might prefer the movie starring Errol Flynn, but we have to admit that this live-action version doesn’t lack for spectacle.

Robin at the shooting competition
Directed by Ken Anakin, who would later sign the Robinsons for South Seas or The Battle of the Bulge, Robin Hood has an old-fashioned, but not cool, charm that deserves a chance. Robin is portrayed by Richard Todd, seen with Alfred Hitchcock in The Grand Alibi and who would go on to direct several other period films for Disney, notably The Rose and the Sword and Check for the King.
What will they like?

Willie, brother Tuck and Robin
- All the usual characters from the Robin Hood story and we find: Marianne, Prince John, Brother Tuck, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Little John and even Will Red, as well as the spirit of the Robin team gang and his cunning. good reason
- As with the cartoon Robin Hood, there are several songs – dubbed in French – that add real color to the feature film.
- The stages of Robin Hood’s story, from the archery tournament to the Robin-Marian affair, the meeting with Little John at the river… all the stages are there and the movie wraps it all up in 1h 20!
What could be bothering them?

The torture scene
- There is a brief torture scene where the sheriff punishes the poacher by beating him, which is fortunately stopped by Robin and his troop. The poacher is rescued, treated and joins the gang.
- Robin’s father is killed with an arrow in the back in front of Robin. The episode went by quickly in a quiet but awesome way because we had time to focus on it.
- During battles, we see members of Robin’s gang or Prince John’s soldiers getting shot in the body, but there is no blood on the screen.
