It’s been over a year since James Hetfield was announced to star in The Thicket , and we’re finally getting our first look at the Metallica singer in the film! James Hatfield – or Papa Het for short – joins a big cast including Peter Dinklage and Juliette Lewis in Tubbs’ dark western and Elliott Lester thriller, which just opened on September 6 in the US.

Based on Lansdale’s 2013 detective novel of the same name, thick tells the story of fortune hunter Reginald Jones (Dinklage) and a group of unlikely heroes – including James Hatfield As Sheriff Simon Dees – who tries to find a young girl kidnapped by a gang of killers led by Cut Throat Bill (Lewis) in the deadly no-man’s land known as The Thicket.

In the trailer, the Metallica singer seems very involved in the story, finding himself in the middle of a shootout and then wandering through a snowy forest while smoking a cigar.

The role that was meant for him

Speaking to Collider last month, the director Eliot Lester He talked about the importance of recruiting for him James Hatfield For this movie: “The casting of James Hetfield in The Thicket is a story that almost seems doomed. It all started with a dream – I woke up one morning with a vivid vision that James was supposed to be in the movie.

After that, he tried everything to get a star in his project: “James Hetfield, the god of rock, embodies a raw poetry that perfectly matched the character we envisioned. From that moment on, Peter Dinklage and I were relentless in our pursuit. We tried all possible ways: his manager, mutual friends, anyone who could help us, contact him.

In the end, it was the screenwriter and director Sacha Gervasi who was able to contact him.

Eliot Lester continued: “But despite our efforts, we didn’t even know if he would be interested in the role. We prayerfully sent him the script and waited. To our delight, a few days later we heard that James was interested. The subsequent meeting confirmed our hopes. Couldn’t have been more humble. He revealed that he had always wanted to make a dark western and he fit right in with our vision for the film.
