Throughout the month of September, the World Skating Games are held in Novara, Italy. The event brings together the world championships of various skateboarding disciplines and the so-called “roller sports“. In the first weekend of the competition, Brazil secured a double in vertical skating. Gui Khury became world champion, with Olympic medalist Augusto Akio taking silver.

Brazil had three skaters in the men’s vert skate final. But it was Gui Khury who dominated the final. In his best round, the young ParanĂ¡se scored 92.09 points. In individual maneuvers, Gui scored 86.40 and 90.00 points to finish with a total of 268.49 points and take home the gold.
Olympic medalist Augusto Akio came closest to Gui Khury. He had a total of 249.96 points, including 89.31 in his best round and 82.14 and 78.51 in individual holds. American Collin Graham took third place with 246.42 points. Without putting together a good round, Rony Gomes finished seventh with 213.33 points.
In the women’s competition, Raicca Ventura was the only Brazilian to reach the final. She had a 67.33 on her best lap and 81.20 in tricks, but failed to land a second individual trick, finishing with only 148.53 points and eighth place. The winner of the event was Olympic Park Champion Arisa Trew from Australia. Trew scored 242.04 to win gold. Japan achieved a double with silver for Hasegawa Mizhuo, with 217.77, and bronze for Kaihara Asahi, with 207.59 points.
Next tests
In the coming days the competition will continue with the next skateboarding events. From September 10th to 14th the road competition will take place with 11 Brazilian skaters, including four of our representatives at the Paris Olympic Games: Rayssa Leal, Kelvin Hoefler, Pamela Rosa and Gabi Mazetto.
