Almost 20 years after its broadcast, this cult series is the most watched series in the world

The biggest hits on Netflix aren’t necessarily new releases. The full Prison Break proved to be a huge success when it arrived on the platform earlier this month. And subscribers of the streaming service did not disappoint us, because the series is now the most watched in the world!

The American Nielsen Institute, which provides a weekly ranking of the most watched series on the platforms, confirms that Prison Break is currently in the first place, with 1.6 billion minutes watched worldwide.

That total surpasses the final season of Umbrella Academy, which ranked No. 2 with 1.46 billion minutes watched over the past seven days. Note that Prison Break is not the most watched TV series in France, as it is only fourth in the top 10 on Netflix this week.

The arrival of the series on the platform is the basis of this sudden resurgence of interest, and it will be interesting to follow the evolution of the rating in the coming weeks.

Let us remind you that the series ran from 2005 to 2009, then in 2017 its 5th season was created as a direct continuation. Prison Break, mostly praised for its first season (the sequels received a lot of criticism), Prison Break is still very popular around the world today.

Will season 6 see the light of day?

Thus, the season 6 that fans of the program have been so demanding is inevitable. For now, projects are focused on a reboot series that will feature new characters.
