Chapecoense beats Ponte in Campinas and ends Serie B drought

After ten games without a win, the Santa Catarina team is 2-0 at Macaca. But it is still on Z4. The Paulistas are approaching the confusion zone

In the match that concluded the 25th round of the Brazilian Serie B, Chapecoense visited Ponte Preta, this Monday (9/9) at Moisés Lucarelli, in Campinas. And the streak of ten games without a win ended: it was 2-0 against São Paulo, with goals from João Paulo and Mário Sérgio. Chape took advantage of the fact that the home team played a terrible game and could have obtained a higher score. After all, he had a goal disallowed and missed a penalty.

Ponte, with this further defeat, remains stuck at 29 points, in 14th place, and has six games without a win. Only four points ahead of the first team outside the relegation zone. Chapecoense had 25 points. But in 18th place and still in the border zone.

Preta Bridge in front

Ponte did not have a good first half. He was missing his main creator, Elvis. However, since Chapecoense, in the first 30 minutes, was very defensive, the home team took control of the game. Therefore, they had at least three opportunities to open the scoring. In the best case, Dodô hit the post of Santa Catarina. However, the team from Campinas made defensive mistakes and Chape took advantage of them to take the lead. In the 36th minute, Chape scored the goal. Maílton (formerly Ponte) took a corner from the left and at the near post, defender João Paulo anticipated the marker and scored.

Chapecoense misses penalty, but extends lead

In the second half Ponte stays with the ball and tries to attack. In the 7th minute, Pontepretano Ramon collides head-on with Bruno Leonardo and gets the worst of it: he goes out with a concussion. He was substituted. Apparently he came out fine, but went to the hospital for further tests. Chape was scary on the counterattack, even scoring a goal that was disallowed.

With a good defensive position, he managed the lead and almost increased it when, in the 31st minute, Sérgio Raphael kicked João Paulo in the box and out of play. The referee went to VAR. Penalty and red card for the São Paulo defender. Veteran Giovanni Augusto (35 years old, just arrived) took the shot and goalkeeper Pedro Rocha saved. But, in the 42nd minute, Mário Sérgio took advantage of a dive on a shot from Marcinho (who made a great play) and closed the score at 2-0.
