Information had already been released by Legendary Pictures, producer of the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s work, after the success of the second film.
After Legendary Pictures, producer of the films of Duneadvance that Denis Villeneuve would already be working on the script for the third part of the franchise, the director himself confirmed, in an interview with Varietyduring the Toronto Festival 2024, which is truly writing the new chapter of history.
“It is in production, yes. That’s why I won’t stay here [no festival] for a long time”said the filmmaker [via GamesRadar+]without going into details about the new feature, which will adapt The Dune Messiahsecond volume of the work created by Frank Herbert (1920-1986).
The novelty contradicts what Villeneuve had said, in an interview with Empirewho would like to take a break before continuing with the new film: “I’ve been on Arrakis for six years without stopping and I think it would be healthy to step back a little.”he declared. At the time, the filmmaker also stated that he would like to have a “strong script” for Dune: Part 3 and I didn’t want to risk doing something that wasn’t really ready because of the enthusiasm.
On Dune
Dune is set in a distant future, where the planets are part of an intergalactic feudal empire, ruled by noble families. In the story, the family of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet, Wonka) agrees to control the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, producer of a valuable spice, which makes it a target of interest for many other families.
In the second part of the story, Paul and your mother, Lady Jessica Atreides (Rebecca Ferguson, The Greatest Showman), are together Chani (Zendaya, Spider-Man: No Way Home) and the Fremen, former residents of Arrakis. Together, they plan to gather an army of allies to fight the relentless Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard, Thor: Love and Thunder).
In addition to Chalamet, Zendaya, Ferguson and Skarsgardthe cast of Dune: Part 2 still includes Josh Brolin (Deadpool 2), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), Javier Bardem (Mother!) and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Christopher Walken (The Outlaws), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Austin Butler (Elvis), Lea Seydoux (007: No Time to Die) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit).
