After premiering at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, The Apprentice (The Apprenticein free translation), new film by Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider), which tells the story of Donald Trumpformer President of the United States, got an official trailer this Tuesday (10).
The biopic stars Sebastian Stanwhich interprets Bucky Barnesthe Winter Soldierin the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is set to premiere on October 11 in North American theaters. In Brazil, however, the film does not yet have a distributor or confirmed release date. Watch the preview (in English):
What we know about The Apprentice?
According to the official synopsis of The Apprentice — which references the reality show The Apprenticepresented by Donald Trump between 2004 and 2015 —, the feature film “traces the origins of an American dynasty”. The text also says that the production is “filled with great characters [e] reveals the moral and human cost of a culture defined by winners and losers.”
Gabriel Shermanauthor of the biography The Loudest Voice in the Room (2014), about the founder of Fox News, Roger Ailesis responsible for the script for the film, which also features Maria Bakalovaof Death Death Death (2022), as Ivana Trump; and Jeremy Strongof Succession (2018-2023), as the lawyer Roy Cohnknown for working alongside the senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s in government anti-communist investigations.
Ivana was married to Trump between 1977 and 1990, and they had three children: Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump. Already Cohnwho died in 1986 from AIDS-related complications, was a lawyer for Trump for years.
Trump claims film contains false information
After the screening of The Apprentice in Cannes, the communications director of the new campaign Trump to the presidency of the United States, Steven Cheungstated that he will take legal action against “blatantly false claims from these fake filmmakers”. “This garbage is pure fiction, which sensationalizes lies that have long since been debunked”stated to AFP [via O Globo].
Among the scenes that would be the target of protests Trump and his team there is one that shows the businessman doing liposuction; another addressing a problem of erectile dysfunction Trump; and a third, considered the most controversial of the work, depicting the alleged rape committed against his ex-wife, Ivanaafter she belittled him for becoming “fat and bald.”
The scene was inspired by a statement given by Ivana in 1990, when he was divorcing Trump. At the time, she claimed that she had been sexually abused by her ex-husband. However, a few years later, she denied the incident and said that, in fact, they were good friends.
