Prepare yourself
With Les Barbares, Julie Delpy wanted to talk about how refugees are received in Europe, but without judgement. The filmmaker relied on programs and documentaries on the subject, but also interviewed many refugees in several European countries.
A painful era
If Skylab takes place before May 1981, a period full of hope according to Julie Delp, the time frame of Barbarians is placed in the more uncertain present: “The current climate is not the most peaceful. My son is 15 years old and is currently studying dictatorship in college. He told me, mom, it’s a circle that comes back every 80 years, it’s catastrophic. Besides, everything is getting worse today, from military power to overpopulation or global warming, there are so many things that will make things worse.“
See you on September 18th at the cinema to discover Les Barbares.
