Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), fined X and Starlink, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, R$ 5 million per day for circumventing the suspension of the social network in Brazil. On Wednesday 18, the platform was accessible again to some users and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) announced an update of the application that made it possible to access it. Moraes stressed that there was “an intentional, illicit and persistent recalcitrance by the platform in complying with the court orders”.
“There is therefore no doubt as to which platform should be adopted to maintain the suspension,” Moraes said in the decision.
Moraes also ordered Anatel to take, within 24 hours, all necessary measures to implement and maintain the suspension of X’s operations in Brazil, including the suspension of new access through the CDN, Cloudfare, Fastly and EdgeUno servers.
