The man was sentenced to 27 years and six months for double attempted murder and drug trafficking crimes
A member of a criminal faction was sentenced on Wednesday, September 18, in Palmares do Sul, on the northern coast of Rio Grande do Sul, to 27 years and six months in prison. The defendant was found responsible for a double attempted murder against two military police officers acting during an action on June 28, 2018, on Quintão beach.
At the time, he and the four other people involved, including two teenagers, were connected to the local drug trade. When approached by police while transporting drugs to a retail outlet, the defendant and a teenager fled and shot at the police.
During the operation, one of the men was arrested in a house used as a base by drug traffickers, where drugs, weapons, magazines, precision scales and other objects were seized. The accused, believed to be a fugitive after the incident, was later captured.
Prosecutor Leonardo Rossi noted that the defendant was convicted of two attempted murders, as well as drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and corruption of minors. Two others involved in the case are separately charged only with trafficking.
