Brazilian Gui Khury has won another gold medal at the X-Games Chiba. After triumphing in vert, the 15-year-old athlete won the best vert trick competition, held in the early hours of this Sunday (22). And the result came with historic feats: he became the first skateboarder to bring a Kickflip Body Varial 900 to a competition and became the teenager with the most medals in the history of traditional extreme sports competitions: 11 in total.
Gui Khury pulled off an unprecedented maneuver to outrun his seven opponents in the final and take the title. The podium was completed by Japan’s Moto Shibata and Soya Inomata, who took silver and bronze respectively. Gui was the only Brazilian in the decider, which also included American Tom Schaar, a silver medalist in the park at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
With the best vert trick, Gui Khury now has 11 X-Games medals: five gold, four silver and two bronze. He has become the most successful teenager in the competition, considered the Olympics of extreme sports, surpassing Estonian skier Kelly Sildaru.
This was Gui Khury’s third major result in the space of two weeks. In addition to his two golds at X-Games Chiba, he won gold at the Vert Skate World Championships in Rome, Italy, in a competition where he doubled up with Olympic medalist Augusto Akio, who took silver.
