The traditional Christmas TV movies are starting to air, and this season’s star guest is none other than… Dwayne Johnson! The American actor will indeed star in the action film Red One alongside Captain America himself, Chris Evans. Red One is nothing more than a nickname for Santa Claus played by JK Simmons.
Made for nearly $200 million, this blockbuster features a lonely hunter (Chris Evans), a Christmas elf (Dwayne Johnson) and a giant polar bear. An unlikely trio, but necessary to rescue Santa Claus, who is being held captive by a mysterious organization.
Lots of action and gadgets, each cooler than the last, are on the menu in this action comedy from Jake Kasdan (Jumanji 2 and 3). A sequel has already been explored, but the development of the franchise will depend on the success of this first installment. We imagine future opuses could parody other American holidays, especially Thanksgiving.
In the US, the film opens in theaters on November 15th (a month before Christmas, so…) before arriving on the Prime Video platform, which co-produced the film. A French release hasn’t been confirmed yet, so we don’t know if we’ll be able to find Red One in theaters or live streaming.
The color red seems to bring Dwayne Johnson good luck. The former wrestler has already appeared in the film Red Notice (with Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot), which became the biggest success of all time for an original film on Netflix (with more than 364 million hours).
