On the obverse, the effigy of the Republic, already present on the common 1 real coin, is accompanied by diagonal lines and the symbol of the monetary standard. The gold edge features the captions “30 Years of Real”, “1994-2024” and “Brazil”.
On the reverse, the new coin is the same as the one in circulation, with the image of a sphere superimposed on a stripe and the constellation of Cruzeiro do Sul that alludes to the National Flag. The face value “1 real” and the era “2024” complete the composition.
The new currency was developed jointly by the Central Bank and the Brazilian Mint. In total, 137 million 1 real coins will enter circulation in 2024.
The CB’s announcement about the tribute underscores the importance of the Real Plan to combat hyperinflation in Brazil. The plan was a set of economic reforms implemented in the 1990s, which removed the Cruzeiro Real from circulation, replacing it with the Real.
