In a move that sparked dissatisfaction among Timão fans, even in the first half, the referee awarded a penalty for the Tricolor Paulista after Fagner tackled Jonathan Calleri. The São Jorge full-back also received his second yellow card and was sent off after review.
After being called by the VAR team, who saw a “strong blow to the shin”, Klein interpreted that the game was for “penalty kick and yellow card for careless entry”.
In the second phase the controversy was due to the expulsion of André Ramalho after attacking Luciano. With the game stopped, the San Paolo number 10 tried to throw a hat at the Corinthians player and was stopped with a blow.
When a review was requested by the team, which reported a “hit to the face,” the the match referee interpreted the play as violent behavior and Timão’s number 5 was sent off: “The ball was already stationary at the moment of the infringement. It is violent behavior and, therefore, a red card for number 5.”
With the 3-1 victory, Sao Paulo reached 47 points in fifth place in the Brazilian championship. Luis Zubeldía’s team returns to the field against Cuiabá, at the Arena Pantanal, next Saturday, 5.
Corinthians, in turn, remains in the relegation zone with 28 points in 17th place. On Wednesday 2nd Ramón Díaz’s team will visit Flamengo for the first match of the Copa do Brasil semi-finals. For the Brasileirão the next match is on Saturday 5th against Internacional, at the Neo Química Arena.
