The KC-30 aircraft took off from Rio de Janeiro and is expected to stop in Portugal. The federal government plans to repatriate 220 Brazilians.
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) reported in the early hours of this Wednesday 2, that the first plane to repatriate Brazilians to Lebanon took off at 00:47. The expectation is that the KC-30 aircraft will return with about 220 Brazilians.
According to the information contained in the note, the federal government’s “Raízes do Cedro” operation started from the Galeão air base in Rio de Janeiro and will stop in Lisbon (Portugal) before heading towards Lebanon. The trip to Europe should last 9:20.
The crew that will leave for the Middle East includes, in addition to the operational crew, also military personnel from the healthcare sector, including doctors, nurses and psychologists. The repatriation model is similar to that used to rescue Brazilians and family members who were in Gaza at the start of Israeli military attack operations in October last year, after Hamas’ terrorist action killed 1,200 Israelis.
“We already have a list that we are preparing. On this first flight there will be around 230, 240 people maximum. This is the capacity of the plane, but there will be others as needed,” said Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.
Lebanon, the target of a land incursion by Israeli forces, is home to the largest Brazilian community in the Middle East, with around 21,000 people.
