The passage of a cold front lowers the temperature in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but Belo Horizonte remains warm.

New heat record in Rio de Janeiro
The afternoon of Wednesday 2 October was the warmest of 2024 so far in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The National Institute of Meteorology recorded a maximum temperature of 39.9°C in the Vila Militar region. The previous record for the highest temperature this year was 39.5°C, recorded on January 17.
After the peak of heat, which occurred around 1pm, the temperature began to drop due to the change in direction of the winds, which began to blow from the southern quadrant, bringing cold air of polar origin to the city of Rio.
This change in wind direction is associated with a new cold front that is arriving in the state of Rio de Janeiro and which will cause rain and keep temperatures mild between Thursday and Saturday.
For the elections on Sunday 6 October, the forecast is that the sun will once again predominate over the city of Rio de Janeiro and the entire state of Rio, with only the presence of many clouds.
Sao Paulo equals heat record for 2024
On another boiling afternoon, the city of Sao Paulo equaled the 2024 heat record. The National Institute of Meteorology recorded a maximum temperature of 36.7°C this Wednesday, October 2. The current heat record in the city of Sao Paulo for 2024 is 36.7°C in September.
The cold front lowers the temperature
A new cold front is arriving in the state of Sao Paulo and this Wednesday evening it will begin to inject cool air of polar origin over the city of Sao Paulo. According to measurements by the National Institute of Meteorology, the maximum temperature was 34.8°C at the Santo Agostinho meteorological station, in the central capital region of Minas Gerais. The previous record of the highest temperature in 2024 in Belo Horizonte was 34.6°C, recorded on September 27.
The heat continues
The passage of the cold front through southeast Brazil will not bring much relief to Belo Horizonte. The heat could increase this Thursday and set a new record. On Friday the temperature drops slightly, but remains above 30°C.
The only day of relief will be Saturday, when the temperature is expected to drop a little below 30°C, but Election Sunday will be hot. The population of the capital of Minas Gerais will vote on a day with mostly sunshine and heat above 30°C. Water, light clothing and sunscreen can be useful in case of queues.
No rain is expected in Belo Horizonte for the next few days.
