“Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” will have a crossover

Quinta Brunson and Rob McElhenney confirm a special episode that will combine the two comedy series

The universes of the series “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” will intersect in a special episode, announced the creators and stars of the series, Quinta Brunson and Rob McElhenney. Both have used social media to publicize the collaboration, which marks the coming together of two of American television’s biggest hits.

Social media posts

Brunson, creator and star of “Abbott Elementary,” shared a photo alongside McElhenney and Charlie Day, another “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” actor. In the caption, she wrote, “Abbott Elementary season 4 is going to be very sunny,” she wrote, referring to the series.

McElhenney used the same photo on Instagram to promote the partnership, but featured more actors in Stories, reuniting the two casts in front of the “Abbott Elementary” set, including “Sunny’s” Danny DeVito and Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis from “Abbot”.

No date confirmed

Despite the excitement generated by the announcement, no details on the plot or airing date of the crossover episode have yet been revealed.

Same city, different places

Both shows are notable for their Philadelphia settings, with “Abbott Elementary” focusing on a public school and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” about a group of friends who run a seedy bar in the city.

The two series also belong to the same conglomerate, Disney, but they have different producers and are not on the same channel in the United States. “Abbott” is broadcast on open TV, on the ABC network, while “Sunny” is broadcast on pay TV, on the FX channel. However, the series are on the same streaming platform: Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in Brazil.
