Dean Fleischer Kemp, the filmmaker behind the independent gem marcel shell with shoesDisney is coming.
The filmmaker will shoot the live-action Lilo and Stitch, a 2002 animated film by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Bright’s Chris Kekaniokalani is in final negotiations to write the script.
With this change, the project, which will be one of the main features of Disney+, is back on the water. Stitch entered development in 2018 with newcomer screenwriter Mike Van Ves. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are the producers of Rideback.
Ryan Halprin of Rideback serves as an executive producer.
Set in Hawaii, the story follows the bond formed between a lonely girl named Lilo and Stitch, a dog-like alien designed to be a force of destruction. The case presents the prosecution of foreigners, social workers and the issue of family ties.
While not a huge success by modern box office standards, the well-received film was a bright spot in Disney’s recent animation history, spawning several sequels and a television series.
lilo It’s meant to be a live-action/CG hybrid, a form in which Fleischer’s field has a proven track record. marseille is a moving story centered around a snail who ventures into the human world. The film is one of the most popular films of the year, has a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and A24 is using the platform’s launch to generate word of mouth. It has one of the highest per-screen averages and has grossed nearly $1 million domestically on just 48 screens.
Bright is a Hawaii-born scribe whose script Conviction made a blacklist.
