At the end of 2022, a very serious rating came and recognized Jeanne Dielman 23, Quai Du Commerce, 1080 Brussels as the best film in the history of cinema. 1,600 critics voted on the feature film at the request of the BFI (British Film Institute)’s Sight and Sound magazine, and it was this 1976 feature film that came out on top, much to the surprise of many. This rating is updated only once in 10 years.

The beginning of the main retrospective

At the beginning of autumn, a year after the release of Jeanne Dielman, ten other works, which have become very rare, by the same director, Chantal Akerman, have recently appeared on the big screen, thanks to a retrospective that was created. Distributor Capricci in France.

Two film cycles are planned. One from September 25, then from October 23, 2024. Here’s a list of movies that are being released in restored 2K and 4K versions:

Most of these films are very rare and were difficult to see or watch legally in France for several years.

Alongside this double cycle of releases, a box set of 43 films will be released, with many previously unreleased on video and all offered on Blu-ray for the first time. This box will combine “Almost all of his film and television work is available“, Caprich elaborates. More than 13 hours of bonus features have been announced: interviews and archival footage, documentaries about the director, cast and crew testimonials, film introductions… Released on October 15, 2024.

Finally, consider the major retrospective exhibition of Chantal Akerman Palm game in Paris, which has just begun. It will be visible until January 19, 2025.
