Jeremy Strong responds to criticism for playing closeted gay man in The Apprentice

Succession actor plays lawyer Roy Cohn, who denied his homosexuality and actively acted against the rights of LGBTQIAPN+ people

Jeremy Strong (Succession) responded to criticism for being heterosexual and playing a gay lawyer Roy Cohn in The Apprenticenew film by Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider), which tells the story of donald trumpformer president of the United States.

Cohnwho became known for working alongside Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s in government anti-communist investigations, he denied his homosexuality and actively acted against the rights of LGBTQIAPN+ people before dying, in 1986, from complications resulting from AIDS.

“[As críticas] are completely valid”he stated in an interview with Los Angeles Times. “Maybe I’m a little old-fashioned in my belief that, fundamentally, it’s a person’s art, and that great artists, historically, have been able to, so to speak, change its nature.”

What is the story of The Apprentice?

Trump claims film contains false information

After displaying The Apprentice in Cannes, the communications director for the new Trump to the presidency of the United States, Steven Cheungstated that he will take legal action against “blatantly false claims from these fake filmmakers”. “This rubbish is pure fiction, which sensationalizes lies that have long been debunked”he told AFP [via O Globo].

Among the scenes that would be the target of protests Trump and his team there is one that shows the businessman having liposuction; another addressing an erectile dysfunction problem of Trump; and a third, considered the most controversial of the work, portraying the alleged rape committed against his ex-wife, Ivanafter she belittled him for becoming “fat and bald”.

The scene was inspired by a statement given by Ivan in 1990, when he was divorcing Trump. At the time, she stated that she had been sexually abused by her ex-husband. However, a few years later, she denied the incident and said that, in fact, they were good friends.

When does it debut The Apprentice in Brazil?

Scheduled to premiere on October 11th in North American theaters, The Apprentice arrives in Brazilian cinemas just a week later, on October 17th. Check out the national poster for the new product:
