The Count of Monte Cristo continues to climb the Everest of French cinema. More than three months after its national release, the adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic is still in theaters and approaching nine million – 8,884,996 admissions. He recently entered the very closed circle of the twenty greatest successes of French cinema.
Pierre Nin’s film far surpasses Jean-Pierre Genet’s Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, one of the most famous French films in the world, and Asterix and Obelix vs. Claude Zid with Cesar and his 8,776,572.
