Brazil has reached a new milestone in the field of environmental conservation and sustainable tourism Blue Flag Programwith the approval of 49 locations – 38 beaches and 11 tourist ports – for the 2024/2025 season, consolidating itself as a leader in South America in environmental certifications for coastal destinations.

beaches of Saint Paul, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Bay, Alagoas AND Ceará were recognized by the program’s international jury for meeting criteria such as water quality, environmental management and tourism infrastructure, in accordance with the Ministry of Tourism. On the coast of Sao Paulo, Praia do Tombo, in Guarujahad approved the renewal.

Created by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the Blue Flag program is one of the most respected environmental seals of quality in the world. Certified beaches and marinas must continually demonstrate their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Last season there were 42 locations on the program roster Blue Flag. “The increase in approvals this year reflects the coordinated effort between governments, the private sector and society to protect the environment and raise awareness of the importance of keeping beaches and marinas clean and well-managed,” the program assesses.

Leana Bernardi, national coordinator of the Blue Flag Program in Brazil, highlights the importance of recognition. “The Blue Flag is more than a seal of quality. It is a recognition that our destinations are in line with international best practices in sustainability. In addition to attracting tourists committed to the environment, the award promotes local economic development, generating employment and income,” he said.

Approved locations follow rigorous criteria, which must be maintained and verified annually. By receiving the seal, beaches and marinas guarantee not only the conservation of ecosystems, but also a safe and organized environment for their visitors.

The national Blue Flag award ceremony will be held on November 1st this year, in Salvador, Bahia.

“The sun and the beach are the main motivations for traveling to Brazil and, the more numerous the destinations are recognized as sustainable, the greater our ability to attract more and more foreign tourists”, stated the president of Embratur (Brazilian Agency for the International Promotion of Brazil). Tourism ), Marcelo Freixo.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), 69% of travelers seek sustainable destinations. “Engagement with the impacts of consumption is more than a trend, it is a political position of a generation that understands sustainability as a social project,” Freixo said.
