Announced over a year ago, the Criminal Minds revival will finally see the light of day on Paramount+! The platform signed a deal with ABC Signature and CBS Studios last February for an all-new 10-episode season of the detective series, but an official greenlight has yet to be announced.
These new episodes have taken time to develop, but this new version of Criminal Minds is now well and truly confirmed by the information. Deadline. And even better with some of the original cast!
Thus, fans will be able to find the characters of David Ross (Joe Mantegna), Emily Prentice (Paget Brewster), Jennifer “Jay” Jarreau (AJ Cook), Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez), Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler). They were the main faces of the last seasons of Criminal Minds. The public will also have the pleasure of seeing Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), who at least left the FBI at the end of last season.
That’s why The Profilers will return for this revival, helmed by longtime showrunner and producer Erica Messer. This new season is very different from the original series. The procedural side, where the investigation is closed in each episode, was abandoned, and the team from the FBI’s Behavioral Sciences Department will focus on the same investigation this season.
The team will indeed face their greatest threat, a criminal who is using the pandemic to create a network of serial killers. As the world slowly recovers from the health crisis, the profiles hunt down this organization of assassins, one murder at a time.
There’s been no shortage of reboots and revival projects in recent years, but the case of Criminal Minds is surprising since the series ended just two years ago at the end of its fifteenth season. Even if most of the actors have signed on for this revival, which will begin shooting in August in Los Angeles, two headliners are missing: Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Spencer Reid) and Daniel Haney (Matthew Simmons).
