The production continues the story of the four-Oscar nominated Brazilian film with members of the original cast
Max announced this Friday (10/11) the start of recording of the second season of “City of God: A Luta Não Para”. In a social media post, the platform said that the new chapters will be exciting.
The series secured its new season a week after the first installment premiered last August.
The production takes place 20 years after the events of Fernando Meirelles’ film, one of the Brazilian films with greatest international resonance, nominated for four Oscars. The story features Alexandre Rodrigues reprising his role as Buscapé, in the early 2000s, as a professional photographer interested in conflicts in Rio’s violent neighborhood. The cast also includes the return of Roberta Rodrigues as Berenice, Edson Oliveira as Barbantinho and Thiago Martins as Bradock, the leader of the boys who blew up Zé Pequeno. Among the new arrivals stand out Andréia Horta (“Elis”) and Marcos Palmeira (“Renascer”). She plays Jerusa, a dangerous, manipulative and fearless lawyer, while he plays Genivaldo Curió, the charismatic leader who controls the drug trafficking in Cidade de Deus.
Written by director Sérgio Machado (“O Rio do Desire”), the series is directed by Aly Muritiba (“Deserto Particular”) and Bruno Costa (“Mirador”).
